Happy Thanksgivukkah!!

Happy Thanksgiving and happy Hanukkah to everyone! This is a very rare occurrence that will not happen again in our lifetime, having Thanksgiving and Hanukkah on the same day.

We are so thankful for our family and friends. God bless you all!

Years ago, as a Girl Scout troop leader, when my two youngest daughters were younger, our troop made turkey cookies and took them to the nursing home. I really wanted to make some this year, and after seeing all the cute Thanksgiving cookies on Pinterest. J's mom helped me get the ingredients gathered up to make pilgrim hats and turkeys and J and I went to work on making some some cute cookies.

We used double-stuffed Oreos, candy corn, malted milk balls (aka Whoppers), and a little bit of icing to make the turkeys. We had a great time!

First, you need to stack the Oreos, to, you know, see how high you can stack them before they fall.

After playing with the cookies, prepare them by taking one side off some of the cookies. You will use these for the bottom of each turkey. You need an equal amount of whole Oreos and Oreos with a wafer on only one side.

Then, get the candy corn and carefully stick it in the filling.  We used 5, but you can use as many as you'd like.

After putting the tail feathers in place, place it on an Oreo that has the chocolate part taken off one side. Just rock it back and forth carefully while pushing it down in the filling. There may be a few accidents, but that's okay. Just eat it, and no one will ever know!

Then take a malted milk ball and dip it in the icing so it will stick better to the Oreo, then place it. in front.

The finished product! A beautiful turkey cookie!  :-)

Don't forget to have some fun along the way!!

We also made pilgrim hat cookies. For these you will need fudge stripe cookies, miniature Reese's cups, and orange icing. Start by putting some icing around the widest edge of the Reese's cup. This will be placed on the cookie.

What to do when you put just a little too much icing on the Reese's cup? Well, you just lick it off! Works every time!

After licking the extra icing, then place the Reese's cup on the cookie.

Lick your fingers to get all the chocolate and icing off, and get ready to put the buckle on.

We used a tube of icing gel to make our buckles.

One proud J, who did an outstanding job making turkey cookies and pilgrim hat cookies.

The final product!
